Pitchers Trade Shut-Outs to Force Rubber Game Thursday in State Playoffs

Senior Cheyenne Pruitt ready for the pitch at third base in Game #1

After game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader in the GHSA State Softball Playoffs at the high school it looked as if the Lady Braves might not be returning to the field on Thursday.

Lovett Lions pitcher Jordan Wolfe shut down the Braves offense and took advantage of some mistakes by the Braves defense to take game one of the best-of-three series 6-0.

Braves Pitcher Alicia Carroll had other ideas, however, as she came back strong in game two to lead the Braves to a narrow 1-0 victory to force a third and deciding game three which will be played Thursday at the high school with a first pitch time of 5:00 p.m.

The lone run scored in game two came on a surprise bunt in the fourth inning by the clean-up hitter Jasmine Cook to score Camry Brice from third and give the Braves the only run they would need.

Carroll seemed to really find her groove in the second game and fittingly struck out Wolfe to end the contest.

The Braves home crowd really came alive as well in game two thanks in part to several Braves football players who showed up after their own practice to support their classmates.

Look for an intense atmosphere for the rubber game of the series tomorrow as these two teams seem to be very evenly matched.

Everyone is encouraged to come out tomorrow and support the Lady Braves as they attempt to advance the Sweet 16 in the Georgia Class AA State Playoffs.
