Qualifying for 2018 Heard County Election

(Franklin, GA) — It is almost time for those candidates wishing to run for office in 2018 to qualify for the election.

The offices up for election this year are County Commissioner Districts 2, 4 and 5 and School Board Member Districts 1, 3 and 5.

The qualifying fee for District Commissioner is $120.00, and the fee for School Board Member is $72.00. These fees were set by the Board of Commissioners.

All qualifying will take place in the Heard Health Center located at 1191 Franklin Parkway, Franklin, GA 30217.

Qualifying will take place during the following times (office closed for lunch 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM):

March 5, 2018 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

March 6, 2018 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

March 7, 2018 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

March 8, 2018 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

March 9, 2018 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Candidates for Board of Education Member will qualify with the Elections and Registration Office.

Republican Party candidates for District County Commissioner will qualify for the Primary with the Republican Party of Heard County.

Democratic Party candidates for District County Commissioner will qualify for the Primary with the Elections and Registration Office.

Anyone wishing to qualify to run for District County Commissioner as an INDEPENDENT candidate will qualify for the General Election at the Elections and Registration Office.

There are requirements that must be met to qualify as an Independent candidate. For more information, contact the Elections and Registration Office.

The qualifying fee may be paid by personal check, cashier’s check, money order or cash (exact amount only – change will not be issued).

For Republican Candidates for District Commissioner, checks should be made payable to the Republican Party of Heard County.

For Democratic or Independent Candidates for District Commissioner and candidates for School Board Member, checks should be made payable to Heard County.

Anyone wishing to file a pauper’s petition in lieu of paying the qualifying fee should contact the Elections and Registration Office as soon as possible.

Candidates interested in running for office should review the information contained on the following websites: www.sos.ga.gov/elections (Secretary of State), www.ethics.ga.gov (GA Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission), and www.heardcountyga.com/voterReg (Heard County Board of Elections and Registration).

The General Primary and Non-Partisan Election will be held May 22, 2018. The General Election will be held November 6, 2018.
