Recreation Braves Opening Day Round-Up

5-6 Flag Braves 34, Mt. Zion 20 (Mt. Zion, Ga)The 5-6 year old flag football team coached by Ben Cosper traveled to Mt. Zion for opening day and came away with a big victory. The Braves led 13-7 at the half after touchdown runs by Camden Cosper and Todd Huey, Jr. The second half so more exciting plays from the Braves including another touchdown by both Cosper and Huey as well as a big touchdown from Will Alford who also added the extra point as well. After leading 28-7 after three quarters the flag Braves won 34-20. 7-8 Braves #1 Team 25, Villa Rica White 18 (Franklin,Ga)– The 7-8 year old tackle team coached by Cain Dean got off to an excellent start in their first game by defeating the Villa Rica team 25-18. The star of the game was Tae Gray who scored all four touchdowns.

9-10 Braves #1 Team 28, Ranburne 0 (Franklin,Ga)– The 9-10 team coached by Brad Yates came out like gangbusters and pounded Ranburne from the opening play. On the first play from scrimmage, Quarterback Jackson Yates connected with Patrick Cofield for a 43-yard score followed by a two point pass play to Collin Wright giving the Braves an early 8-0 lead. The Braves never looked back as  Jackson Yates ran for three more touchdowns and the Braves walked away 28-0 winners.

11-12 Braves 19, Carrollton Gold 25 (OT) (Franklin,Ga)- In the most exciting game of opening day the 11-12 Braves coached by Alan Head rallied back from a 12-0 halftime deficit to send the game to overtime where they were narrowly defeated by the Trojans. The Braves were led by Jaden Moreland who scored two touchdowns and the play of the game was an 82-yard touchdown pass form Brian Jones to Austin Quillen which gave the Braves a 13-12 lead late in the game. Chunky Hannah played big on defense with several big tackles and a fumble recovery and Jay Jones also recovered a fumble. The Braves had apparently matched the Trojans touchdown in overtime but it was overturned by the officials. The Braves were unable to recover and were stopped by Carrollton on 4th down to end the very exciting game.
