Recreation Week 6 Round-Up: 7-8 Braves #1, 9-10 Braves #1 Continue to Roll

7-8 Braves #1 (Cain Dean) 12, Bowdon 6 (Franklin,GA) – Cain Dean’s 7-8 year old Braves squad won a tough tilt with the Bowdon Red Devils 12-6 at home. The defense was the deciding factor holding Bowdon to just six points and only two first downs on the day. Leading the defense were Brent Hull, Kayden Minix, and Eli Dean. Tae Gray continued to shine with a long touchdown run and Jameer Cook also scored on an exciting run.

7-8 Braves #2 (Marsh) 33, Bremen Blue 0 (Franklin,GA) – Total domination by these Braves.

9-10 Braves #1 (Yates) 20, Mt. Zion 0 (Mt. Zion, GA) – Coach Yates team continue not only an undefeated season but a season in which they have allowed ZERO points. The Eagles had a 1st and goal at the one and the Braves stuffed them to keep the scoreless streak alive.

Bremen 23, 11-12 Braves 8 (Bremen, GA) – The 11-12 Braves were attempting to get back in the win column but it wasn’t to be as the Blue Devils downed them in another physical game.

Captains for this week’s match-up for the Braves were: #36 Trent Sickman, # 76 Tyler Batchelor, #15 Bryan Jones, and #77 Nathan Pettway. The game began by the Braves winning the toss and electing to defer to the second half.

The Blue Devils took the opening kickoff and marched down the field, eventually scoring on a nice run by their running back #22.

The Devils then failed on the conversion attempt due to Chunky Hannah, Kevin Hendrix and Kolby Hannah all combining to bring the Blue Devil running back down in the backfield for a loss on the play. The score was 6-0.

On the Braves first possession, they drove the ball down the field until the Bremen defense tightened up and forced a punt. The punt by Bryan Jones set the Devils up deep in their own territory.

As Bremen began to move the ball once again, Chunky Hannah came up with a huge hit which forced a fumble which Chunky also recovered. The second half began with a scoreless 3rd quarter of play the teams pushed each other up and down the field but never found the elusive end zone.

At the beginning of the 4th quarter the Braves found themselves with their backs against the walls with the score 15-0 and the Blue Devils on their own 3 yard line. The Braves D dug in and the held with another strong goal line stand led by Mason Jenkins and Chris Goode.

Two plays later, the Blue Devils came up with a huge play as Jaden Moreland was dropped in the end zone for a Bremen safety which made the score 17-0.

On the ensuing Braves possession, Chunky Hannah went on offense. After Jones connected with Austin Quillen for a 16 yard gain, Chunky was given the ball.He wasted no time as he powered his way for a 10 yard rush resulting in another first down.

Three plays later, the Braves drove it across the goal line as Chunky scored his first touchdown of the year. Jones then found Davey Raines open in the end zone for a successful conversion. The final score was 23-8.

The loss drops the Braves to (2-4) on the year with their final game coming this Saturday at the Heard County Sports Complex at 4 p.m. They will face the Trojan White team from Carrollton. (Submitted by: Gary Jones)
