Recreation Week 6 Round-Up: Little Braves defenses shutout opponents for 20 consecutive quarters

Defense continued to be the name of the game for the Little Braves during Week #6 as all teams shutout their opponents for the second consecutive week.

During the astonishing streak over the past two weeks, the four Braves teams combined have compiled a 5-0 record and outscored their respective opponents by a combined total of 149-0!

(NOTE: Basketball registration has begun at the recreation department and will continue through November 12, 2012.)

The undefeated Flag Braves will compete in the Flag Bowl this Saturday in Mt. Zion, Ga.

Flag Braves 38, Ranburne 0 (Ranburne,Al)The Flag Braves completed and undefeated regular season when they defeated the Ranburne Bulldogs 38-0 Saturday. Coach Josh Parmer and the Flag Braves will compete in the Flag Bowl this Saturday at Mt. Zion high school.

Leading the way for the Braves versus the Bulldogs were Jonathon Lacey and Slade Parmer who each scored two touchdowns. Joshua Thompson and Antwon Carter also each scored a touchdown. Tommy Googe added an extra point.

On defense Jay Roberts, Sammy Holiday, Cameron Wilkins, and Googe led the way. The Flag Braves last won the Flag Bowl Championship two years ago when they were coached by Cain Dean. Click to view the Flag Bowl Championship Bracket.

7-8 Braves 42, Carroll County Black 0 (Carrollton,Ga) - Coach Dean and the 7-8 Braves traveled to Carrollton Saturday to meet the Carroll County Black team and totally dominated the game from start to finish especially on defense.

The 7-8 Braves defense has not allowed a score during the last two games outscoring opponents 62-0. The Black team only had one first down in the entire game and on their longest play of about 30 yards Ashton Bonner stripped the ball which was recovered by Eli Lawson.

Kayden Minix was the beast on defense with 10 tackles mostly in the backfield. Minix also stripped the ball and ran it in for a defensive touchdown from over 50 yards away.

Other standout players on defense included Mason Bailey, Logan Patterson, and Bonner. Andrew Rogers also stepped up with a nice performance for the Braves.

Offensively, the key for the Braves was the offensive line who provided big holes and good protection for the quarterback all day long.

The line includes Will Alford, Wesley Crabtree, Brent Hull, Luke Bennett, Bailey, and Creighton Stevens. Noah Cantrell, Jameer Cook, and Bonner handled most of the scoring and all subs played well especially Todd Huey, Jr. who really hustled on every play he was in the game.

The 7-8 Braves will take on Tallapoosa this Saturday (10:00 am) at home in the final regular season game.

9-10 Braves 28, Carroll County Maroon 0 (Carrollton,Ga) – The Sammy Marsh coached 9-10 Braves shut down the Carroll County Maroon offense completely Saturday winning via shutout 28-0.

Tae Gray and Leroy Marsh led the way on offense with Chase Powell also getting some big yardage and throwing some nice blocks.

The offensive line made up of Bailey Scarborough, Anthony Graley, Trinity Wilson, Drew Cornelius, Mark Chambers, and Jacob Holdridge led the way up front with some awesome blocking.

The longest play of the day came on a 72-yard reverse by Ayden Cannon. Komari Clark had a huge special teams play for the Braves.

Once again the defense shined led by Bo Hazel, Key Whitlow, Tray Owens, and Cedric Ware. The 9-10 Braves finish their regular season this Saturday at home versus Villa Rica Purple (11:30 am).
