Red Devils Trounce Braves 48-30

One thing the Braves coaching staff knew going into the game with the more experienced and athletic Bowdon Red Devil team Friday night was that they could not allow a lot of turnovers but that is exactly what took place.

Several turnovers by the Braves especially in the first half led to Devil scores and in fact two of those fumbles were scooped up and ran in directly for touchdowns.

Those miscues put the Braves in an early 34-0 hole in the second quarter which was just too much to climb out of.

Bowdon running back Maricio “Poo Poo” Askew lived up to his hype with several big runs and pass receptions and showed the kind of speed not seen at Staples Stadium in several years.

The Braves did fight hard in the second half and came up with several scores of their own but it was too little too late for any opportunity at a victory.

The Braves (0-2) will now face one more non region opponent this week in Coosa, a fellow AA school from near Rome.

Though not a region game it will be very important as non region AA wins serve as a primary tie-breaker in determining the state playoff participants so the Braves could really use a win before region play gets under way.

The 5-AA schedule gets started when the Jordan Red Jackets come to Franklin for homecoming on September 23rd.

The Red Devils begin their region play this Friday night at home versus Mt. Zion.
