Reed goes 6-6 to lead Braves over Blue Devils

Senior Dalton Reed collected six hits in six at bats Friday to lead the Braves to an important 16-10 win over the Manchester Blue Devils. The win secured at least a number three playoff seed for the Braves with only one game left in the regular season.

The Braves will take on Jordan Tuesday at home for Senior Night. Unless the Braves (12-13,10-3) can get help from the same Blue Devils (8-8,7-5) Tuesday vs. Temple (11-11,9-3), then they will remain at the three seed when the state playoffs start.

Although they share equal region records and split their two meetings this season Temple holds the tie-breaker advantage over the Braves because of a one run advantage in head to head total runs scored.

The Braves and the rest of the Region 5-AA teams will face off against Region 6-AA in the first round of the GHSA playoffs which will take place May 4-5.

Reed’s 6-6 effort was quite a feat especially with the addition of the mercy rule in recent years.

It is unusual for players to even get six at-bats in a game much less attain six hits. Reed had three doubles and three singles to go along with six RBI’s.

Senior Zack Battles also stroked his second HR of the season and added four RBI’s. Taylor Smith went 3-4 with five runs scored.

On the mound the starter Ryan Hutchins got the win and Ben Cole finished up in relief.

After Tuesday’s game, Coach Shane Lasseter’s squad will have 10 days off to prepare for their first round. The potential round one opponents could be Lovett, Blessed Trinity, or Buford.
