School Board Position Remains in Limbo after Qualifying

Last week’s qualifying dates for a special election for the District #1 school board opening came and passed with no one qualifying for the position according to a phone interview this week with Heard County Probate Judge Joseph Bledsoe.

The spot was vacated by Tony Burson who moved out of the district recently. Both Bledsoe and Heard School Superintendent Jerry Prince report that they are unclear what will happen with the position at this time.

This is an unprecedented event and we are consulting with our attorney’s in regards to our next step in filling the vacancy,” said Prince Wednesday afternoon.

Qualifying opened last Monday at 9:00 a.m. and continued through Wednesday at noon.

The only requirement to qualify for the special election was a $72.00 fee for any resident in the district, which encompasses most of the area in the eastern part of the county.

We will continue to follow this story and post any updates as they become available.
