School Nutrition Program served children over 69,000 meals during shutdown

(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County School Nutrition Program really stepped up during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nutrition Director Melissa Van Norden reports that since the school shutdown in mid-March, a total of 69,768 ‘To Go Meal Packages’ have been served to between an estimated 350-450 children.

Of those meals, a total of 49,454 were served during the actual school shutdown while the remainder were served as part of the typical summer meals program.
