(Franklin) — For the past several years, the Heard County Sheriff’s Office has collected monetary contributions as well as clothing and toy donations to provide for needy children at Christmas.

The Heard County Department of Family and Children’s Services takes applications from local families and screens the requests.

Parents and/or guardians are asked to list several toys their children are requesting along with clothing and shoe sizes.

The approved requests are sent to the Sheriff’s Office for “Santa Claus” to fill. This year over 250 children were provided with toys, bicycles and clothing thanks to the generosity of the people and companies who donate year after year.

“Christmas is the perfect time for the Heard County Sheriff’s Office to give back to our community. This year was another great success thanks to the many individuals and companies dedicated to making certain every child in Heard County has a great Christmas morning,” stated Sheriff Ross Henry.

“I would like to thank all the individuals who donated monetarily, who provided gifts and their time to ensure this year was another wonderful Christmas. I would also like to thank all my staff members for their dedication and hard work year after year. Everyone have a Merry Christmas.”
