Senator David Perdue and Secretary Sonny Perdue announce Rural Broadband Program

(Claxton, GA) — U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) joined U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue in announcing the Trump Administration’s new Broadband ReConnect Program, which will help communities stay connected by bringing high-speed internet to rural Georgia.

“In today’s global economy, broadband access is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. President Trump and Secretary Perdue have taken strong action to support rural communities, and their efforts are making a real difference,” said Senator David Perdue.

“This investment will have a huge impact on education, business, and healthcare in Southwest Georgia. Most importantly, it will help ensure no Georgian is left behind. The Trump Administration knows that when rural communities succeed, America succeeds, and I applaud their commitment to closing the digital divide.”

“Our core mission at USDA is to increase rural prosperity through boosting economic opportunity in rural America,” said Secretary Sonny Perdue.

“We know that rural communities need robust, modern infrastructure to thrive, and that includes having access to broadband e-Connectivity. Under the leadership of President Trump, USDA is proud to partner with rural communities to deploy this critical infrastructure.”

The Broadband ReConnect Program furnishes loans and grants to provide funds for the costs of construction, improvement, or acquisition of facilities and equipment needed to provide broadband service in eligible rural areas.

To date, USDA has invested more than $529 million in high-speed broadband infrastructure which will create or improve connectivity for rural customers.
