Senior Day Loss Ends UWG Playoff Hunt

(Carrollton, GA) — It wasn’t the Senior Day that anyone hoped for on Saturday as the West Georgia football team fell to Florida Tech, 45-21 on Saturday afternoon at Ra-Lin Field in Carrollton.

The highlight of the game for the Wolves was senior defensive end Dylan Donahue picking up a half sack in the first half, breaking the Gulf South Conference record for single-season sacks with 13.5.

West Georgia turned the ball over four times on the day, turning into 17 points off of turnovers for Florida Tech. Freshman quarterback Willie Candler of the Lovett School in Atlanta was 12-of-22 for 111 yards and two touchdowns, but Candler also had two interceptions on the day.

Florida Tech held a 21-14 halftime lead on the back on an interception for a touchdown, then scored 24 second-half points  as the Panthers capped off the victory in Carrollton.

The win drops the Wolves to 6-4 overall with one regular season game remaining. West Georgia travels to Pensacola, Fla. for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday afternoon at Blue Wahoo Stadium.
