Senior Lady Brave earns all-state basketball honors

(Franklin) — HHS basketball player Jordan Watson was named to two all-state basketball teams recently in tribute to her performance during a 2015-2016 season that saw Coach Helen Akins and the Lady Braves advance all the way to the Class AA State Quarterfinals at Georgia College.

The senior was named as a member of the GACA Class AA All-State squad and as an honorable mention All-State player by the AJC.

Watson averaged a double-double for the season scoring an average of 11 points per game while grabbing an average of 12 rebounds per contest.

The senior pulled down 17 rebounds in the exciting Region 5-AA Championship game at Manchester.

Watson is of course headed to Michigan State University on a softball scholarship, but Akins thinks Jordan is an example to other athletes that you can be successful playing two sports with enough effort.

“I’m just so proud of Jordan she is such a good kid and a very hard worker,” said Akins after the announcement this week.

“She is such a competitor and I think she is an example to other kids that you don’t have to be a a one sport person. You can work hard and excel at multiple things — and if you want to play another sport you can do that. We are going to miss her big time next year — she is such a leader.”

Watson has received numerous all-state and all-region honors in softball over the last four years.
