Shooter’s wife charged with attempted murder

(Randolph County, AL) — Special agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) on Wednesday, July 13, arrested Brenda Marie Lee, 73, of Wedowee and charged her with five counts of attempted murder and one count of hindering prosecution.

Mrs. Lee remained with her late husband, Eli Lee, on Saturday, July 9, when he fired at law enforcement officers while the two were in a camper parked in the Swagg community of northwest Randolph County.

That incident escalated after a domestic violence situation with Mr. Lee earlier that day in which he allegedly set his son’s house and yard on fire and killed the son’s dog.

During the standoff, Mr. Lee wounded Randolph County Sheriff’s deputy Donnie Grant Jr. Grant is expected to make a complete recovery.

The standoff ended late that afternoon when Mr. Lee apparently turned the gun on himself.

Mrs. Lee has since been released on $265,000 bond.
