(Franklin) — The 7th Annual Heard County Braves Athletic Booster Club Silent Auction took place Saturday, March 22 in the Heard High School cafeteria.

A catered dinner provided by the Little Hawaiian restaurant in Carrollton was served up by Chef Tillman and the culinary arts department and was followed up by the always interesting process of auctioning off various donated items as well as the cash raffle giveaways which of course make the event very exciting.

Mrs. Judy Awbrey was the big winner of the night as her name was drawn for the grand prize of $2500 in cash. Mrs. Awbrey was not in attendance but her husband Al and two of her grandchildren, John Paul and Jake were happy to claim the big prize on her behalf.

Young Jake was very excited about his grandmother’s good luck. “It is really cool; she could already buy a used car with that amount of money,” said young Jake. When asked if he thought she might share her winnings with him, Jake was unsure. “I mean she probably won’t share it with anyone… it is $2500 and that is a lot of money… but maybe she will since she is my grandmother.”

The $1000 prize went to Danny Davis while $500 prizes were won by Sheriff Ross Henry, Robin Cantrell, and Terry Fuller.

The large crowd in attendance found some amazing bargains on many of the items which were all donated by local businesses and citizens.

Lots of great deals were to be had on various sports related items as well as some very cool gift baskets which contained all sorts of different items. Every donated item was auctioned off and HHS Athletic Director Shane Lasseter estimates that over $26,000 was raised for the various athletic programs.

The Heard High Athletic Booster Club would like to thank everyone including businesses and private citizens who donated items and their time for this very worthy event as well as those who bought tickets and attended.

Additionally, the Brave Nation would like to extend a very special thanks to the primary sponsors of the event: Reeves Supply, Servpro, Hannah Electric, Nutt Roofing, West Georgia Tech, B & S Farm, Stephens and Stephens CPA, and the Georgia Deer Farm.
