(Franklin) — The 10th Annual Heard County Braves Athletic Booster Club Silent Auction took place Saturday night in the Heard High School cafeteria.

An excellent steak and chicken dinner  was served up by Chef Tillman and the Heard High Culinary Arts department and was followed up by the always interesting and entertaining process of auctioning off various donated items as well as the cash raffle giveaways which make the event uber exciting for all those with tickets.

Mrs. Kim Harper was the big winner of the night as her name was drawn for the grand prize of $2500 in cash.

The $1000 prize went to Brave mom Mrs. Melody Cheney while $500 prizes went to Heard County Chairman Lee Boone, local business owner Mr. Terry Harper, and Daria Myers, the sister of Lady Brave basketball coach Helen Akins.

The large crowd in attendance found some amazing bargains on many of the varied and unique items which were all donated by local businesses and citizens.

Lots of great deals were to be had on various sports related items as well as some very cool gift baskets which contained all sorts of different items.

Every donated item was auctioned off and HHS Athletic Director Shane Lasseter estimates that over $28,000 was raised for the Heard High athletic and marching band programs.

The most exciting item auctioned off Saturday night was a “mystery prize” with a value of over $2,000 donated by the overall sponsor of the event Reeves Supply Company.

Mr. Wayne Miller was the top bidder and the mystery item was cash in the form of a large assortment of $2 bills and a gorgeous diamond necklace that Mr. Wayne passed on to his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Miller.

Other items of note included a beautiful hand-crafted planter’s bench donated by Mr. Darrell Crumley, a signed photo of Larry Bird and Julius Erving, a signed Bo Jackson helmet, and numerous other sports memorabilia items and gift baskets.

The Heard High Athletic Booster Club would like to thank everyone including businesses and private citizens who donated items and their time for this very worthy event as well as those who bought tickets and attended.

Additionally, the Brave Nation would like to extend a very special thanks to the overall sponsor of the event Mrs. Hazel Reeves and Reeves Supply along with Gold Sponsors All-Pro Diesel, Heard High CTAE, B & S Farms, Hannah Electric, Georgia Container, and Michael and Melody Cheney.

Silver Sponsors included Beck Facility Services and Marsh Siding while Bronze Sponsors were Harper Insurance Agency, Stephens and Stephens Accounting, Sheriff Ross Henry, J&R Construction, and Mr. Waymon Jones, Piedmont Newnan, Newnan Bonding Company, and Mr. Benjamin Hyatt.

“We are so appreciative to everyone in our community that contributed and volunteered to make this event once again successful — especially Mrs. Lori Cabe. Without Mrs. Cabe our auction would fall apart. She is truly a backbone of our school,” said Heard High athletic director Shane Lasseter.

“We are also very thankful to our generous sponsors and notably our overall sponsor Reeves Supply — these businesses and individual sponsors have become an integral part of our biggest fundraiser over the past few years.”
