Small Town “Candy Cane” Christmas Celebration

There’s nothing like a small town Christmas Celebration!  Franklin Georgia will have just such an event on Friday, December 2, 2011 beginning at 5:00 p.m.

The town square will be decked out and lit up with thousands of Christmas decorations and lights. There will be a huge Christmas parade beginning at 6:30 p.m. featuring Santa and Mrs. Claus who will then be available to children at the “North Pole.”

A photographer will be on hand for pictures.  During the parade, Mayor Teresa Chapman will light the town Christmas tree.

The theme of the event this year is “Candy Cane Christmas” and all businesses are encouraged to decorate with the theme in mind.  There will be a prize given for the best decorated business around the square.

Booths will sell homemade crafts, t-shirts, aprons, scarves, local honey, and a variety of other items.  Food/drink booths will offer hot coffee, hot chocolate, hot apple cider and cold drinks too.

Other food booths include brownies, funnel cakes, BBQ, hot dogs, chili, fried Oreos, sausage dogs, candies, homemade baked goods, and much, much more.

There will be lots of local entertainment and Christmas music to entertain event goers, so bring your family and friends to experience the sights and sounds of Christmas, 2011 in Heard County.

Anyone interested in being in the parade should call Sarah 706-675-6128 or Lori 706-675-8316.  There is no charge.

Applications for booths can be picked up at City Hall from Myra706-675-6623.  Booths are available for a charge of $20. You can also buy Candy Cane Christmas t-shirts, sweatshirts and scarves at City Hall on the square in Franklin. (Submitted by: Judy Miller)
