(Georgia) — A Heard High School graduate was recently selected as the Georgia Special Olympics volunteer of the month for June.

Amber Spearman is a 23 year-old student at the University of Georgia, where she majors in Nutritional Science.

When she completes her bachelors degree, Amber plans to enroll in the School of Pharmacy. Her goals are to earn a doctoral degree, become a pharmacist and work at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

Amber has served as a Special Olympics volunteer since elementary school, not just because her mom is a Special Education teacher, but because she enjoys it.

Of course, she was introduced to it by her mom, but she continues it because she loves sharing her love for sports with others.

Amber assists in the preparation for many competitions, participates along with the athletes as a partner, and helps clean up and store equipment at the end of the day.

Although she is a proud Georgia Bulldog at Georgia, her heart is still in Heard County with the Special Olympics athletes. Often she’s asks to come home just so she can serve as a volunteer at Basketball Skills Competition, Long Distance Walking/Running Competition, and the Coweta/Heard County Invitational Track Meet.

Also, since Amber graduated from Heard High and started college at UGA, she continues to serve as the Fundraiser Chairperson and has not missed any Special Olympics Fundraising Projects.

Amber is a dedicated volunteer who doesn’t mind donating countless hours to any aspect of Special Olympics.

Thank you for your hard work, Amber! Congratulations on being June’s Volunteer of the Month. (Article courtesy of specialolympicsga.org)
