Special Olympics Athletes Compete at Mt. Zion High School

image (1)(Carroll County, GA) — Heard County Special Olympians competed against Carroll County athletes in the Spring Invitational Track and Field Meet and brought home colorful ribbons in several events.

Winners in their respective divisions and age groups were as follows: Nigel Echols – 3rd in 50 Meter Run, Zack Thornton – 2nd in 50 Meter Run and 1st in Standing Long Jump, Dylan Evans – 2nd in 50 Meter Run and 2nd in Standing Long Jump, Dennis Shaw – 2nd in 200 Meter Walk and 3rd in Shot Put, Todd Hendricks – 1st in Shot Put,  Tonya Hull – 1st in Shot Put and 2nd in 200 Meter Walk, and Buck Dunson – 3rd in 100 Meter Run and 2nd in Shot Put.

All Heard Elementary athletes participated in the 50 meter run and the standing long jump.

Bravely competing against Carroll County athletes in their age division and track and field heats, Heard County female winners were Ashley Shellnutt- 3rd in 50 meter and 2nd in Standing Long Jump and Kaylee Holcomb – 3rd in 50 meter and 3rd and Standing Long Jump.

Callie Robinson, a new athlete to our school system, was boss in both of her heats bringing home 1st  in the 50 meter and 1st in the Standing Long Jump.

Heard County boys were consistently competitive with James Abernathy also bringing home 1st in 50 meter and 1st in the Standing Long Jump.

Other male winners at the elementary level were Anthony Bailey – 3rd in the 50 meter and 1st in the Standing Long Jump, Jeffery Freeman – 1st in the 50 meter and 2nd in the Standing Long Jump, Ronnie Benefield – 3rd in the 50 meter and 2nd in the Standing Long Jump, Jackson Baker – 3rd in the 50 meter and 4th in the Standing Long Jump, Wyatt Arp – 2nd in 50 meter and 2nd in Standing Long Jump, and Jonathon Shellnutt – 1st in 50 meter and 3rd in Standing Long Jump.
