Special Olympics Basketball

(Franklin) — Friday, January 16 was great day for sports in Heard County!

Several Special Olympics athletes received awards for participation in Local Basketball Skills Competition at Heard County Rec. Dept.

Heard County athletes put forth their best efforts while competing against others in their age group.

The events for high school, middle school and alumni athletes were perimeter shooting, dribbling obstacle course and controlling the basketball when rebounding off the backboard.

The events for elementary school athletes and a few athletes from the middle school were spot shot, target pass, and the ten-meter dribble.

Wylene Spearman, the local coordinator, would like to extend a special thank you to the local merchants, corporations, and service clubs for the continuous financial support of athletic events for Special Olympics.

Also, special thanks to the bus drivers, teachers, assistants, teen volunteers, community volunteers, one super community volunteer who has been assisting with Special Olympics throughout this school year. Her name is Lexi Bell.  She started helping during fall and continues to be a “team player” every time there is a Special Olympics event.

We want to include a special thanks to Director of Heard County Recreation Department, Kathy Scott and her staff for helping make this event possible.
