Start Your Own Stockpile

(Kristy is a stay at home mom of two teenage girls. Her oldest daughter is going to high school this year and she is homeschooling her middle school daughter until she goes to high school. She is a busy Mom, volunteer, pastor’s wife, & teen taxi driver. She is eight months cancer-free after being diagnosed and having surgery last year. She loves to save money, clip coupons & try new recipes.)

I love to hear about people who buy 200 boxes of pasta for $2 but let’s face it. That is not a realistic goal for those of us who have families, jobs & a life! My goal as a money-saving mama is to have enough on hand to last until the next month when it goes on Sale again. I do use coupons but you can build your very own stockpile without coupons because everything goes on sale at one time or another. Here are some tips for starting your own stockpile..

*Start Slow- You don’t have to fill your pantry with extras all at once. Start with the sale items & buy what your family will use over the next 6-8 weeks.

*Pick 2 grocery stores- Supermom’s head would spin after trying to shop at 5 or 6 grocery stores each week. Pick your 2 favorites & get the sale ad each week. You will learn after a few weeks how often an item goes on sale at your favorite store.

*Don’t Blow your budget- If you can’t afford to buy 8 extra items of each thing that is on sale, start with 2 extras. Even 2 extr

a of each sale item per week will make a difference in your budget.

*Use coupons- Coupons are so popular these days so the large grocery chains are using them to draw in more business. You can save 60 or 70% and even get those stockpile items for free if you use coupons.

Stockpile- Pasta Salad

Pasta noodles (of your choice) 2 boxes

Italian dressing- one bottle (Name brand dressing tastes better in this salad)

black olives

chopped fresh tomatoes

sliced fresh cucumbers

Boil pasta & add all the ingredients together for a yummy salad. Pasta & salad dressing are on sale 2 times each month at most grocery stores. If you have a garden, it makes for a cheap salad that tastes great. I have many friends who make this different ways & it always turns out great.

*You can also add pimentos, shredded or cubed cheese & parmesan. There are many variations on this salad.
