Teaver Road Baptist Church Fire Investigation

At approximately 7:03 am, on Sunday (1/8/12), Troup County Fire and LaGrange Fire personnel were dispatched to a large structure fire at 215 Teaver Road.

After their arrival, Firefighters began battling a blaze that burned heavily for approximately the next six hours. Witnesses and church parishioners watched from a safe distance along the road nearby, as more than 50 firefighters struggled to gain control of the situation.

Sheriff Donny Turner and Deputies from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office assisted by providing traffic control around the cordoned off area.

American Red Cross staff and volunteers arrived to provide water, supplies and extra manpower for the members of the church that were on hand.

Additionally, Federal Agents from the Georgia Field Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with Investigators from the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office, initiated their investigation into the possible cause of the fire.

After conducting field interviews, inspecting the scene of the fire and gathering all available evidence, ATF Agents and Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Agents have stated that the exact cause of the fire is undetermined.
