The Princess and the 3 Peas: I do NOT like Sports

I do not like sports.
I do not watch sports.
I do not understand sports.
I have been this way my whole life.
In high school I was in marching band.
I hated P.E.
This one time I liked football for like 5 minutes!

Okay so those are the facts, oh and just a little disclaimer I am talking about adults playing sports. Professional, way over paid kind of sports. Kids playing sports is fantastic. They play hard out of sheer enjoyment for the sport and excitement to be a part of a team. Watching 3rd and 4th grade boys play football while my daughter cheers has been a truly unexpected highlight for me this fall.

So let me take you back to about a year ago. My husband arranged a sitter and surprised me by taking me to a Seahawks game. Just when I thought he didn’t know me at all after so many years together, he hit an all time low!

If it wasn’t for the fact that the game was being played at a stadium I had heard was awesome but had never been to, I probably would have acted like a real child and just said uh go ahead and go without me!

To make a long story shorter, it ended up being one of our best dates ever.

I mean I got a sparkly Seahawks tattoo airbrushed on my cheek, got to wear navy and lime green which are great colors on me, had some wine, had some garlic fries, experienced the whole “12th man” thing that the Seahawks are known for, and had some really great photo ops with my hubby.

No I am not forgetting to mention anything about actually watching a football game.  Yes there were some players on the field doing things against other players on the field, but I was so caught up in the ambiance of being there that the outcome of the game was the last thing on my mind.

Okay so fast forward a year to a couple weeks ago, when Jonathan and I got the opportunity to go watch the Seahawks play the Packers at that same stadium for Monday Night Football none the less!  Oh I was all over that opportunity. Planned out my outfit, decided which cheek to get my sparkly tattoo on, bought my little wine oh sorry I mean soda bottles to sneak in…So excited!

During this game though I made the mistake of actually asking questions about football. I wanted my husband to explain things to me as they were happening.  I wanted to know about scoring, what the different plays were called, how many time outs you can have, questions about fouls, I wanted to know it all.

I was also quickly realizing that other fans were very angry about bad calls being made by the refs, which Jonathan had already told me they were replacement referees.  I could see the bad calls even with my lack of sports knowledge, but it wasn’t targeted at just one team so I wasn’t too concerned.

So I watch this crazy amazing game, and I seriously want the Seahawks to win!  I went from not caring at all to having this feeling inside me that my positive cheers were actually helping them win the game.

When the Seahawks got that touch down and won the game in the final seconds it was so exhilarating!  I was high-fiving strangers, screaming, jumping up and down… I may have even told my husband that it was more exciting than childbirth but I will deny that if asked in front of my children! I decided at that moment that I would learn everything about football.

I would watch it on TV, have all my boys play it, and fill our house with Seahawks garb! Then as we walked out of the stadium I quickly discovered how controversial that last call was.  In a matter of moments I was robbed of my joy that I will NEVER get back again.

All the comments, all the negativity, all the arguing, I mean really I know for a fact there have been other horrible calls in sports! By the time we got home I was longing to go through unmedicated childbirth again rather than listen to all this nonsense about the game.

I believe my poor husband was close to tears at the fact that his dream of having a wife that likes sports was so near, and then that dream died so quickly right before his eyes!

So anyway, that’s the story.  A little different than the mom stuff I usually blog about but seemed entertaining enough to share.

P.S.  - I would like the record to state that if all the bad calls of that game were fixed the entire outcome of the game would have been different not just the last touchdown.

P.P.S.  - I would also like the record to state that I have watched the replay and read up on the rules and I believe it was a simultaneous catch, in which case the ball belongs to the passers which in this specific situation would give the Seahawks their touchdown!

P.P.P.S  - I would lastly like the record to state that I am going to take a cold shower right now because I do not know this woman typing these things about football right now and I feel dirty!!
