Three Braves named to first team all-region (Video)

Region 5-AA football coaches met recently to select all-region players and several Braves on both sides of the ball were honored.

Duranta Dunson, Dalton Pate, and Corey Freeman were all named to the first team all-region.

Dunson, only a freshman, rushed for over 1200 yards in his debut varsity season and was also named the team MVP at the team awards banquet recently. He was also named to the second team all-region on at defensive back where he amassed 75 tackles.

Junior lineman Dalton Pate was also named first team offensive lineman and had a solid defensive season as well with 34 tackles including eight for a loss. At the team awards banquet he was named outstanding offensive lineman of the year.

Another junior, Corey Freeman, made first team all region and was named as the outstanding defensive lineman of the year for the Braves team. Freeman tallied almost 50 tackles on defense.

The Braves had five other players named to the all-region second team including Brandon Smith (WR), Elijah Toney (TE), Jake Edwards (OL), Jonathon Hunt (Athlete, Punter), and Blake Hardy (LB).

Honorable mentions included Jace Mock (C), Dillian Bradley (LB), Brandon Wiggins (DL), and Tyler Wynn (RB). Dunson, Toney, and Zack Stephens were named to the all freshman team.

Other awards which were given out at the team banquet included Most Outstanding Linebacker (Blake Hardy), and Most Outstanding Defensive Back/ Wide Receiver (Brandon Smith).

Other team awards included The Ross Henry Hustle Award (Elijah Toney), The Coaches Award (Jake Edwards), The Carrollton Orthopaedics Iron Man Award (Dillian Bradley), and Special Teams MVP (Jonathan Hunt).

The Golden Helmet Award for highest Senior G.P.A. went to kicker Bill Singleton. Captain’s awards were presented to seniors Tyler Wynn, Blake Hardy, and Brandon Smith.
