Toddler drowns in West Point Lake

(Lagrange, GA) — A 1-year-old boy drowned in Troup County yesterday in what appears according to investigators to be a tragic accident.

The victim identified by WSB-TV as Fisher Pursley of Lagrange, reportedly drowned at the Long Cane Access located off of West Point Road south of Lagrange.

Troup County 911 received the emergency call at 12:25 p.m. Sunday and the first unit arrived on the scene at 12:28 p.m.

A press release issued by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office indicates the toddler had been found unresponsive by his mother in shallow water. 

CPR and other lifesaving procedures were attempted, but the child was transported to West Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced as deceased at 12:56 p.m.

Agencies responding to the scene included the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, Troup County Fire Dept, Troup County AMR, Georgia DNR, and the US Army Corp of Engineers.
