Tomahawk Talk (12/16/14)

Sikes Feature(Franklin) — After a short break, I am back with the another edition of Tomahawk Talk. We have had a great start to out winter sports seasons.

Basketball and wrestling are now going full speed with games and matches going on each week. Our teams have been working hard and playing even harder.

Our boy’s basketball team has gotten off to a hot start. They have played a challenging out of division schedule in order to help them prepare for the division games that begin this week.

They have wins against Callaway, Bay Springs, and Haralson County — all much larger schools. They have been led by eighth graders Connor Nutt, Alijah Huzzie, D.J. Emory, Tray Dunson, and Andrew Leak.

The girl’s basketball team led by Haley Bennett and Alexus Crawford has been playing good basketball against the same stiff competition as the boys but have been coming up short.

The girls are playing scrappy defense and playing hard each game. They look to break into the win column this week as they begin division play.

The wrestling team has also gotten off to a hot start as they have wins against Haralson County, Mt. Zion, Temple, Bowdon and Villa Rica. These guys are looking to build upon the success of last season’s championship and make a run to a second straight division championship.

We have a busy slate of events coming up this week as the basketball teams traveled to Mt. Zion on Monday, will head to Bowdon on Tuesday and Villa Rica on Thursday. All games will start at 5:00.

The wrestling team also has a busy week as they travel to Bremen on Tuesday and then to Mount Zion on Saturday for the Conference Dual Championships. The match on Tuesday will start at 5:00 and the Championship on Saturday will begin at 9:00.

Testing will also be going on at the Middle School this week so make sure your child gets rested up each night and gets to school on time. Lets all work together as we strive for success in the classroom as well as in our sporting events.

We hope to see you at one of our events. Go Braves!
