Traffic stop leads to arrest of Newnan man and Franklin woman

The Franklin Police Department arrested two individuals for possession of illegal narcotics just after midnight on Friday, April 6th.

The arrest came after Officer Gary Morgan of the Franklin Police Department conducted a traffic stop on South River Road.

While speaking with the two occupants inside the vehicle, identified as Tina Ann Smith and Michael Lang, they acted in a nervous manner according to Officer Gary Morgan.

Upon the arrival of Deputy Jonathan Nelms of the Heard County Sheriff’s Department, both individuals were interviewed and a search of Michael Lang resulted in the discovery of a small bag containing methamphetamine residue.

During this encounter with the two individuals, law enforcement officers located additional methamphetamine in the purse belonging to Tina Smith that had been emptied from the bag that was located on Michael Lang. They also found Xanax and Lortab, which were not prescribed to either of the individuals.

Tina Ann Smith of Franklin was charged with two counts of Violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act, Violation of Georgia’s Dangerous Drug Act, and Prescription Medication Not in the Original Container.

Michael Lang of Newnan, Georgia was charged with three counts of Violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act, Violation of Georgia’s Dangerous Drug Act, and Prescription Medication Not in the Original Container.
