Trey Wiggins named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week

The kicker’s award marks the second-straight week that a UWG player was named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week.

Wiggins continued to solidify himself as West Georgia’s regular placekicker, putting together a 6-for-6 effort on extra points against Miles and nailing a 32-yard field goal in the third quarter.

The freshman is 10-for-10 on extra points through two games in his collegiate career and 3-for-3 from field goal range.

He was the first to produce points for West Georgia in the 2017 season, hitting from 31 and 23 yards against Fort Valley State in Week 1 before nailing his new career-high 32-yard field goal against Miles this past Saturday.

West Georgia opens Gulf South Conference play this weekend, hitting the road for the first time this year to take on the Delta State Statesmen in Cleveland, Miss. Kickoff for that contest was originally 7 p.m., but has since been moved up to 3 p.m. (EST)
