Trojans edge Lady Braves 1-0

(Carrollton, GA) — The Lady Braves varsity softball team dropped a tough 1-0 decision on the road at the #7 ranked AAAA Carrollton Trojans Wednesday afternoon.

The game featured outstanding performances by both top-rated pitchers as the Trojan pitcher Katie Jones and Lady Brave ace Jordan Watson combined to allow only five hits combined.

The Trojans manufactured the only run in the game on a two-out first and third steal play which scored third baseman Shelby Yates who had doubled to lead off the inning.

A fourth inning double by Anna Shelnutt and a sixth inning single by Shemeka Parks would be the only hits allowed by Jones.

The Lady Braves threatened in the top of the seventh before a long fly out double play ended the contest.

The Braves will look to regroup quickly as they open Region 5-AA play at home versus Bowdon today at 5:30.

The junior varsity Lady Braves jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage before falling 6-2 to the Trojans in the second game of the varsity/JV doubleheader Wednesday.

Both squads travel to Kennesaw University this Saturday (12:00/2:00 pm) to take on AA rival Wesleyan. The varsity game at 2:00 p.m. will feature the two top ranked teams in Class AA softball.
