Trunk or Treat a Big Success!

The 3rd annual Trunk-or-Treat took place last Monday night (Halloween) and offered the children of the community an opportunity to trick or treat safely at the covered arena.

The event which was sponsored by The Franklin Police Department, Heard County Sheriff’s Department, Heard County Board of Commissioners, and the Heard Community Partnership drew an estimated 1200-1500 people.

Various community groups, organizations, and businesses decorated their vehicles and passed out free candy and promotional items to all the children in attendance. Pastor Noel Forrester was the MC for the event.

A yellow Volkswagon Beetle decorated by Kidz-4-Christ won the most original trunk award and a $20 Wal-Mart Gift Card. In the best costume category judges chose three finalists and allowed the applause of the crowd decide the winner.

Ms. Logan Dawson, a 6-year old Heard Elementary Student won the grand prize for her “Cotton Candy” costume. She was very proud to receive a $20 Wal-Mart gift card and a bag of candy that literally weighed more than she did.

It took all of the might in her little body just to hold the bag of candy up for a photo. When asked what she would buy with her gift card she didn’t hesitate as she screamed out “toys!”

The 2nd place prize went to 8-year old Violet Nash for her very impressive and original ghost-buster costume which was mostly homemade.

She was seen several times during the night using her ghost-busting equipment to make sure everyone was indeed human.

She also received a very large bag of candy for her efforts. In third place and also receiving a large bag of candy was 8-year old Jachelle Gloss who was dressed as a very beautiful and proper “Southern Belle.”

After the event Franklin Police Chief Kevin Hannah issued the following statement:

“The Franklin Police Department is very pleased to have been a part of the Trunk-or-Treat, which once again proved to be a very successful event. The large amount of participants showed that an event such as this is needed in the community and provides a safe environment for everyone. I would like to personally thank everyone who attended this event and a special thanks to the volunteers, regardless of your role in making this a success. We look forward to next year’s event and encourage more citizens to take part in this fun-filled event by decorating their own trunk.”
