Adam Eugene Carney, 28 and Kevin Roger Tenney,19, both of Franklin, Georgia were arrested Sunday for Violation of the Georgia Dangerous Drug Act, Prescription Medication Not in the Original Container, and 22 counts each of Violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act. Carney was also charged with speeding.

The arrest of these two people took place during the afternoon hours of Sunday, April 8, 2012. Officer Gary Morgan of the Franklin Police Department indicated in his incident report that he was conducting routine patrol duties on South River Road, while following behind a vehicle.

Upon entering the posted 25 mile per hour zone, located near Heritage Health Care, the vehicle traveling in front of Officer Morgan failed to reduce its speed.

As the vehicle continued to exceed the speed limit Officer Morgan verified the speed utilizing the patrol vehicle’s radar unit, which indicated that it was traveling at 43 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone.

Upon stopping at the intersection of South River Road and Franklin Parkway, Officer Morgan was able to observe that the vehicle contained two occupants who were moving around inside the vehicle, as if they were attempting to hide something.

After crossing over Franklin Parkway and onto Georgia Highway 34, the vehicle turned into the parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly, where Officer Morgan conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Adam Carney and the passenger as Kevin Tenney. While conducting his roadside interview of the two individuals, Officer Morgan’s suspicions continued due to the extreme nervousness of the occupants.

Upon the arrival of Officer Nikki Chapman, a search of the vehicle was conducted and revealed a Marlboro cigarette box that contained a total of 22 pills.

Of those pills located, 19 were identified as Lortab and 3 were Xanax. Both of these prescription medications are controlled substances and were not prescribed to either of the individuals.

At the conclusion of the roadside interview and search, Officer Morgan and Officer Chapman placed both individuals under arrest and transported them to the Heard County Jail.
