(Hogansville, GA) — Two Franklin women, Jenny Cheeves and La’Christian Franklin, advanced to the second round of the West Georgia Idol competition last night at the historic Hogansville Amphitheater in neighboring Hogansville, GA.
The competition, a three-week long fundraiser with proceeds going to the Amphitheater itself, is modeled after the uber popular Fox television show “American idol” and the 2013 version featured about 30 competitors from all over the area, some as far away as Thomasville, GA. This is the fourth consecutive year of the event.
The three judges for the competition include Kevin Raines, owner of the Nivek Co. Talent and Modeling Studio, Christian recording artist and songwriter Kevin R. Dunn, and Michelle Lynch, owner of Poshe Productions, a full service entertainment company.

La’Christian Franklin was one of the first performers, doing her 90 second remix of “How to Love” by Lil Wayne. She was happy to make it to round two in her first time at the 4th annual competition. “I felt like I did a good job and I am very excited about moving on to next week,” said Franklin.
Also competing for the first time was Heard Elementary PTO president, Jennifer Cheeves. Cheeves performed “One and Only” by Adele and received arguably the most compliments from the three judges. Cheeves also had one of the largest groups of support with 40+ family members and friends on hand to root her on. “I enjoyed tonight tremendously and I can’t wait to get to next week,” said Cheeves, also a first time participant.
The Idol contest is open to all contestants ages 14 and up. Some competitors sang acapella while others used back up music or played instruments. Heard High School Senior Shemeka Parks also competed in the competition’s first night.
Anna Howington and Tyler Walls served as the MC’s for the show.
The second round will take place next Saturday night at 6:00 pm at the amphitheater. Admission is $5.00 per person. To see more photos from round one visit www.facebook.com/heardcitizen.
