Two road wins in Columbus move Lady Braves to 16-2; Region 5-AA tourney could land in Franklin

The Lady Braves traveled Columbus Friday night and scored a nice region win in a close battle with the Lady Cherokees of Kendrick 57-54.

Aaliyah Rutledge continued her hot shooting and led the team with 18 points. Reece Walker was not far behind with 14. The Parks twins (Shemeka and Jemeka) each tallied 10 points.

Saturday night the girls traveled back to Columbus and knocked off the Spencer Greenwave 61-32. The Lady Braves lead Region 5-AA with a 6-0 record and control their own destiny in region tournament seeding.

They will face a key battle next Tuesday night (2/7/12)  in Columbus when they go up against the Carver Tigers who now sit in second place with a 6-1 region record.

A win would be huge for the girls as it would not only likely secure the top region tournament seed, but would also bring the finals of the region tournament for both the boys and the girls to Heard High School in a couple of weeks.

The boys continued to struggle as they have all season dropping a 77-36 decision to Kendrick on Friday and being blown out by Spencer 85-27 on Saturday. They are now 0-17 on the season.

The Braves will host Starr’s Mill tomorrow night at the high school (Girls 6:00/Boys 7:30).
