Preliminary information revealed yesterday that the child was a full-term, white female and showed no obvious signs of trauma or injury.

A cause of death has not be determined at this point as further blood testing on the infant could take several weeks to months.

Investigators are asking the public if they know of any expectant mother who was full-term and is no longer with child to please contact them at 706-883-1616 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.

The case began January 6 at 3:20 PM when deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Boy Scout Rd off of New Franklin Road regarding a deceased newborn that was found on the side of the road.

Once on the scene deputies and investigators discovered what appeared to be a deceased newborn child in a portable cooler bag.

According to the TCSO, witnesses in the area stated the cooler had been on the side of the road near the wood-line for several days, possibly up to a week.

The cooler (see photo) is light blue in color with pictures of watermelon slices and zips at the top, front and sides.
