(Franklin/Times~Journal) — On Friday, July 29 the community came together to honor all law enforcement, EMT, firemen and our military.

The service was held at New Covenant Worship Center in Franklin. Speakers for the evening were Pastor Doddridge, Bishop Christopher Franklin Sr. and Reverend Jerry Ennis.

Each spoke words of peace, unity and appreciation to the people who serve our community. The Bible scripture read was Romans 13:1-8.

A message on being subject to authorities, for there is no authority except from God and God appoints the authorities that exist.

Special honorees were Chief Kevin Hannah, Franklin Police Department, Chief Tifton Dobbs, Lanett Police Department, Chief Steve Wirth, Heard County Fire & Emergency Services, Sheriff Ross Henry, Heard County Sheriff Department, Superintendent Jerry Prince and Pastor Robert Doddridge.

Sheriff Ross Henry thanked the Fireman, State Patrol, all the officers as well as Mrs. Franklin, Rev. Doddridge and the church.

Henry stated, “We need you just as much as you need us. No matter how tough it gets, we are going to be here. We love our community.”

He spoke of the recent traffic stop made by a Heard County Deputy where a person stopped and prayed for the officer.

Henry stated, “ I got a call last week from an African-American traveling through Heard County from New York, who was speeding and called just to brag about how respectful the officer was. We are all made in the image of God and we don’t want to forget that.”

The evening ended with the song “God Bless America”, sang beautifully by Erica Whitney and Rev. Doddridge followed with a prayer for those who serve our community.
