(Carrollton, GA) — Jordan Watson continued her dominant ways on the mound last week as the Lady Braves softball team edged the Central High School Lady Lions 1-0 Friday in a match-up of two of the strongest teams in West Georgia.

Not only did Watson shut down the Lions on the hill she also provided the big offensive highlight of the day — a long solo homer that produced the only run of the game for either squad.

The senior pitcher and Michigan State commitment allowed just two hits on the day with one being a squibber late in the contest.

Central’s junior pitcher Emily Williams was also dominant on the mound allowing just the one hit.

The defensive highlight of the game came courtesy of senior Lady Brave left fielder Madison Whitehead who robbed a hit from the Lions in the fourth inning.

“They were good offensively and they had good swings it was just between Jordan in the circle and Anna Shelnutt behind the plate — and then our great defense behind us — Madison Whitehead just made an unbelievable catch out there,” said head coach Matt Hornsby.

“I told our girls Central’s pitcher (Williams) would be good — she is a division one pitcher committed to Central Florida and we knew it was going to be tough to score against her. We needed to just get one run on the board or we may have been there for 15-20 innings,” said Hornsby.

“Jordan was able to make her come back down in the zone and then level off on one and it was a no doubter — everyone knew it was gone off the bat.”

The Lady Braves are now 7-0 on the season and will open the home schedule this afternoon versus Newnan High School (4:30 JV/ 6:00 Varsity).
