Woman Life-Flighted After New Year’s Day Crash

(Franklin, GA) — A Franklin woman is in intensive care at Columbus Medical Center this afternoon after being life-flighted from a two car crash that occurred on New Year’s Day morning.

Family members say that 47-year-old Kimberly Winzer is being treated for head trauma she suffered during the crash but doctors are hopeful that she will be able to make a full recovery.

According to a report issued by Trooper J.P. Hogan with the Georgia State Patrol Saturday afternoon, Winzer was heading westbound and attempting to cross U.S. Hwy 27 at the Five Notch Road intersection in her Oldsmobile when she failed to yield to a southbound GMC pick-up truck driven by Charles Shadrick of Enterprise, Alabama.

Winzer CarShadrick incurred only minor injuries in the crash. Winzer’s car was struck on the passenger side.

She was life-flighted from the scene and transported to Columbus after being knocked unconscious.

“A neurologist said today that they are not concerned with her head injury as far as bleeding goes, but they are ordering some more tests to evaluate her concussion,” said Winzer’s daughter Jaime this afternoon. “We will know more after these evaluations but we think she is going to be ok.”
