(Franklin, GA) — George Washington once said of our Flag, “We take the stars from Heaven, the red from our mother country, separating it by white stripes, thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity representing freedom.”

On Tuesday December 4th, local American Legion Post #148 were presented with a Certificate of Award for their outstanding work in the community educating the public on the meaning of our nation’s most precious symbol.

The Flag of the USA Committee for the James Stewart Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution presented the certificate for their flag activities during 2018.

Celebrating their 100th year, American Legion members have educated the public on the proper etiquette and meaning of our flag, celebrated Flag Day in June while demonstrating the proper retirement of a flag and recently serving as Honor Guard at the recent Veterans Day program.

The Flag of the USA Committee was formed in 1909 to promote strong patriotic feeling and respect for our flag.

Both organizations share many similar goals and work every day to keep our flag flying, to preserve the meaning, to protect it continuously under all conditions and to educate citizens regarding its proper usage.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to preserve the memory and spirit of those who contributed to securing American independence.

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.

You can be a part of our service to the community, too. Please contact us at
