Bennett buzzer-beater takes down Jackson at Carrollton Tourney

(Carrollton, GA) — The Lady Braves varsity basketball team scored an exciting win over Jackson this weekend at Carrollton’s Girl’s Night out tournament.

A 3-point buzzer-beater from Lady Brave senior Haley Bennett won the game 44-41 to move the Lady Braves to a record of 2-1 for the season. It was the third long range basket of the game for Bennett who also led the scoring with 13 points.

Several Lady Braves had strong scoring efforts including Tori Caldwell and Sophia Long who each scored eight. Sydney Gay had seven points and Morgan Kay finished with two made from beyond the arc.

The Lady Braves other win also came last week at East Paulding as the squad knocked off the Raiders 57-29.

Bennett again led the offensive attack with 15 points including three more from long range.

Sophia Long (12 points) and Morgan Kay (10 points) also reached double digits in the win.

Sydney Gay scored eight while Hermonie Garza tallied four and freshman Alora Cosper made the first basket of her varsity career.

Coach Helen Akins’ Lady Braves are dressing the entire JV team for varsity games this season.

The Lady Braves (2-1) will host Class AAAA Chapel Hill tonight in the regular season home opener in Franklin. The JV girls will tip at 4:30 and the varsity girls will tip off at 6:00 PM.

Coach Keith Simmons and the Braves (0-1) are playing short-handed while missing several key players due to the extended football season but will also tip off with Chapel Hill at 7:30 tonight.
