Brave alumnus in critical need of a Heart Transplant

(Franklin, GA) — A Heard High Class of 1989 graduate and former standout Brave athlete is in need of a heart transplant and a family member is trying to help raise funds to make the surgery possible.

Dante Emory

Dante Emory is on a journey to becoming eligible for the Heart Transplant list.

Dante was born and raised here in Franklin, and has previously worked for Duracell, RBI, and different employers in the roofing/construction field.

Family members say during the last year, Dante has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure which has seemingly positioned him into a stressed and depressed state of mind.

His mother, Sandra Emory Tucker, has been tirelessly his nursing attendant and caring for her son during his time of need.

He has been provided with an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) which is a medical pump implanted to help a weakened heart pump blood. This is his new normal.

Dante is 50-years-old and his father passed away due to the same medical illness.

His cousin, Marian Boyd Ross, has created a fundraising campaign in an effort to assist Dante on his journey to becoming eligible for the Heart Transplant list.

“Although Dante is being encouraged by his family and friends, his heart cannot keep up with its workload. He is a patient of Emory Saint Joseph’s who partners with the Georgia Transplant Foundation and guides the family through the process of getting on the Heart Transplant list,” Boyd says.

Unfortunately, before a patient can be placed on the Heart Transplant list, they MUST have $5,000.

“Yes, this is the world we live in and this is literally a matter of life and death,” Boyd states on her fundraising page. “We are asking for your financial support and your continued prayers during Dante’s journey. All proceeds raised will go directly to the medical costs, travel, and lodging during his journey.”

Pastor Neil Awbrey from Glenloch Baptist Church says he is praying for his old schoolmate.

“I’m praying for Dante and his family – a lifelong friend and teammate – a true Brave, he’s always had a smile and would hit the clutch the shot when needed. I am hoping we can all come through in the clutch for him in his time of need,” says Awbrey.

Dante is a relative of a long list of current and former Heard County athletes Trina and Emory Jones, current Brave Nation athletes Alex and Zekylah Boyd as well as many others.
