Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (02/01/16)

(Franklin) — Each week HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

Opening Day — The Braves varsity baseball team will open the 2016 season on Tuesday, February 16 at home (5:30 PM) versus Landmark Christian.

Wrestling State Sectionals — The traditional area wrestling state sectionals will be this weekend February 5-6 at the Bremen Recreation Department. The the top four placers in each weight class will advance to the GHSA State Championships February 11-13 at the Infinite Energy Arena in Duluth.

Max Power Clean — Senior Brave lineman Hunter Lane power cleaned 315 pounds for a new personal best last week.

Career High Game — Former Brave LaRice (Reece) Walker scored a career high 24 points for the Georgia College in Saturday’s 70-58 loss at Francis Marion University. Reece is in her junior year for the Bobcats.

Tori POWBrave Nation Player of the Week: The Player of the Week is HCMS basketball player Ms. Tori Caldwell.

Tori led the Lady Braves to a big playoff win over Temple last week with 16 points, and she was the most consistent player for the middle Lady Braves during this season.

Congratulations to Tori for being named this week’s Player of the Week!

Silent Auction —  The 9th Annual Heard County Athletic Booster Silent Auction will take place Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Heard High School Cafeteria. See any athlete or coach to purchase your tickets.

Middle Basketball Teams Bow Out — Both the boy’s and girl’s HCMS basketball squads were defeated in the semi-finals of the championship tournaments last week in Temple.

Big Game from Hammett — Will Hammett had a monster game for the 14U HCPR basketball Braves last week with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 steals.
