Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (09/11/18)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

GOLD-OUT at Staples Stadium — The BRAVES ARE GOING GOLD for Pediatric Cancer Awareness this Friday night for the Central game at Staples Stadium. Students will be able to purchase a gold bracelet for $2 to serve as a pass for a hat/untucked shirt day this Friday, and there will be a 50/50 raffle with winners being announced at halftime of the game. Donation jars will be placed at concession stands for anyone who would like to contribute to the cause.

HCPR Football — All three youth tackle Brave teams will open the season on the road this week. The 12U Braves are coached by Joe Jones, the 10U Braves are coached by Brent Tisdale, and the 8U Braves are coached by Shane Dawson. (See schedule below for times and locations)

Class AA State Softball Rankings — The Lady Brave varsity softball team is ranked No. 4 in Class AA in the Week 4 Score Atlanta Poll. The top three includes No. 1 Rockmart, No. 2 Harlem, and No. 3 Monticello.

Brave Nation Player of the Week

The Brave Nation Player of the Week is Heard County Special Olympics Athlete Mr. Dennis Shaw.

He recently won another bowling medal in the Master’s Division State Competition in Warner Robins.

Dennis, age 64, has participated in Special Olympics for many years and is one of the most highly decorated athletes in Georgia Special Olympics history. 

Congratulations to Dennis for being named this week’s Brave Nation Player of the Week. 

HCMS Football Opener — The middle Braves traveled to Haralson County last week for the regular season opener versus the Rebels. The Braves fell 34-6 and the biggest highlight for the Braves was a 15-yard TD pass from QB Will Alford to receiver Jonathan Echols. In the backfield, Jacob “Juice” Miles made several strong runs.

JV Football — The junior varsity Braves dropped an exciting match-up at Bremen last Thursday by a final score of 32-27. The team also fell 14-7 to Handley (AL) at home yesterday in an added game.
