Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (10/04/16)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

Region Softball Tourney — The Lady Braves will host the four team Region 5-AA Softball Tournament this Saturday at HHS. The tournament will determine not only the region champ but also the top four seeds for the GHSA Class AA State Playoffs which begin with a Best-of-3 series next Wednesday. Region 5-AA matches up with Region 7-AA in the first round at state.

Superbowl of Sound — The Marching Braves competed in the Superbowl of Sound at Central High School Saturday. Stay tuned to HeardCitizen.com for a complete wrap-up of the event tomorrow. The Marching Braves’ next competition will be at the ‘Sound of the County Invitational’ on Oct. 15 at Harris County High School.

HCMS Cross Country Finals — The middle school cross country league championships take place today at Carrollton (5:00 PM).

Brave Nation Player of the Week

Cheney POWThe Brave Nation Player of the Week is HCHS junior Marching Brave drum major Ms. Melanie Cheney.

Melanie won first place in the AA division Drum Major competition at last weekend’s Superbowl of Sound in Carrollton.

Pulpwood Classic 5 — The Pulpwood Classic takes place on Thursday, October 13 at Callaway Stadium in Lagrange. After the Braves won the first Pulpwood Classic, the Cavs have held the coveted trophy for the last three years.

Homecoming Week — Homecoming is Friday, October 21 vs. Jordan.

Middle Football Playoffs — HCMS will host Bowdon in the middle school semi-finals next Wednesday, Oct. 12 at HCMS. With a win the Braves would host the Championship game at Staples Stadium on October 20.

~ Game 1 – (1) Heard Co. vs.  (4) Temple @ HHS (Noon) (Region 5-AA Semi-final)

~ Game 2 – (2) Lamar County vs.  (3) Callaway @ HHS (2:00 PM) (Region 5-AA Semi-final)

~ Game 3 – Loser of 1 vs. Loser of 2 @ HHS (4:00 PM) (Region 5-AA 3rd Place)

~ Game 4 – Winner of 1 vs. Winner of 2 @ HHS (6:00 PM) (Region 5-AA Championship)
