Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (12/06/17)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

Basketball vs. Bowdon — The boys and girls varsity basketball teams fell to Bowdon Tuesday night at home. The boys fell in overtime 60-50 in the first game back for the football players. Alijah Huzzie led the scoring for the Braves with 24 and freshman Ayden Cannon tallied 12. Both teams return to action this Saturday afternoon at home versus Handley.

Brown Award — Former Brave and current Marshall University center Levi Brown was selected to the second team all Conference USA squad this week. Levi and the Thundering Herd will take on Colorado State in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl on December 16 in Albuquerque.

Brave Nation Player of the Week

The Brave Nation Player of the Week is junior varsity football player Mr. Andrew Leak.

Andrew was a huge part of the Brave defense this season and established a new single season tackle record with 139. He also had three caused fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and three interceptions and a defensive TD.

Congratulations to Andrew for being named this week’s Brave Nation Player of the Week!

Defensive Football Records — Several Braves broke defensive season records during the 2017 semifinal run including Tray Dunson (17 QB Hurries) and Jaden Moreland (15 Interceptions).

Middle Wrestling Dual Finals — The HCMS Wrestling team will travel to Mt. Zion this Saturday for the Middle Dual Championships.

Echols to MSU — Senior Northgate Viking Charla Echols will join her sister Ebonee and former Lady Brave Jordan Watson on the Michigan State University softball team after graduation next year. Charla batted .533 with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 5 homers and 38 RBI’s. She was retired on strikes just once during her final varsity season. Charla and Ebonee are the daughters of former Brave standout baseball player Charles Echols.
