The No. 2 Makayla Red (8-0) and the No. 3 Laurel Roberts (8-1) also each won handily.

Head coach Rich Fendley is very optimistic about the team’s chances as they move forward with region play again next week.

“Callaway is going to be a tough opponent in our region, but I think both our boys and girls teams have a shot to win the region — something that we’ve never accomplished in the history of our program,” said Fendley after the matches Tuesday.

Fendley has been pleased with the team’s progress early in the season especially a couple of players who have been off to surprisingly strong starts.

“On the boys side, our No. 3 John Helton has really played well all season. We have a strong boys team and really any of our top five players could be playing singles for us,” says Fendley. “The girls are also playing well and Megan Jordan has been one of our big surprises of the season so far. She has already improved on her game so much.”

The Braves will host Bowdon this afternoon and will also host the Region 5-AA Tournament on Tuesday, April 11 in Franklin.
