Brave tennis nets close wins over Troup

(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County High School tennis teams each scored 3-2 wins over Troup County top open the 2019 tennis season Monday afternoon at HCHS.

In boy’s action, No. 3 Dave Dunn earned an 8-6 win while No. 1 Garrett Callahan lost 8-4 and No. 2 Jordan Cornelius fell 8-5. In doubles’ action No. 1 team Duncan Googe and Ethan Hahn won 9-7 while Denver Klaustermeyer-Beamon and Andrew King won handily 8-3.

In girl’s play, senior No. 1 Katelyn Smith lost a close 9-7 match and freshman No. 2 Chaple Butler easily earned her first career win by a score of 8-3.

No. 3 Juliann Carpenter also won her match easily 8-2.

In doubles’ play, No. 2 Lily Langley and Morgan Nations started the season strong winning 8-5 while No. 1 Haley Henry and Kailey Schneider were edged by the Tigers in a close 8-6 match.

The Braves tennis teams will be back in action at home next Monday as they host Harris County. The region slate gets started on March 12 when Coach Blake Alford’s squad plays host to Callaway.
