(Bremen, GA) — The No. 1 ranked Bremen Blue Devils got the best of the Heard High Braves Thursday afternoon, sweeping the doubleheader to take all three games in the Region 5-AA series featuring two top 10 teams.

The Blue Devils (11-3, 3-0) took game one by a score of 7-3 and again edged the Braves 4-2 in the nightcap.

As it was in Tuesday’s first game, defense was once again the achilles heel for the Brave squad as they committed seven errors in the twin bill.

In game one, the Devils opened up a 6-0 lead before the Braves put two on the board in the fifth inning. Leroy Marsh led the Braves offense with two hits and two runs scored while Tray Owens drove two runners home.

Tanner Collins, Caden Raines, Mason Rollings and Will Hammett each had one base hit.

Dale Thornhill started the game on the hill tossing four innings and giving up three earned runs. Jake Harrod pitched a scoreless inning in relief allowing just a walk. Drew Cornelius gave up one earned and struck out two in his inning of work.

In game two, freshman Kellon Rollings again pitched well scattering three hits and three walks in five innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out seven. His brother Mason Rollings pitched one scoreless inning in relief.

Bremen starter Griffin Cook was stellar tossing a complete game while allowing just three hits with now walks and two unearned runs. He fanned seven Braves in the game.

Mason Rollings accounted for two of the three Brave hits. Collins and Owens each had an RBI.

The Braves will continue region play when they travel to Lamar County at 5:30 PM tomorrow before returning home this Friday for a doubleheader versus the same Trojans with Friday’s game one first pitch slated for 5:30 PM at Alford Field.
