Braves pound Pacelli with 38 runs in doubleheader sweep

(Columbus, GA) — The Brave bats exploded for 38 runs Saturday afternoon as they earned a road sweep of the St. Anne-Pacelli Vikings in Columbus.

Senior Ethan Brant out together a monster effort with 11 RBI’s on the day including nine in game one as the Braves downed the Vikings  18-3 in four innings.

The Braves took game two by a final score of 20-6 in six innings. Brant blasted a grand slam in game one and went 5-for-8 on the day with the homer, three doubles, and four runs scored.

Lee Kay also had a huge day going 5-for-7 with a homer, seven runs scored, and six RBI’s.

The Braves had two big innings in game two scoring nine in the third and eight in the sixth.

Trey Alford scored his second win of the season on the mound in game one, while Kay notched his first win in game two.

Other big offensive days were had by freshman Dale Thornhill (4-for-8 with five runs scored), Logan Ward (3-for-4 with six runs), Drew Hopkins (3-for-4 with four runs), Tanner Collins (2-for-3 with three runs in game two), and Alford (3-for-4 with two RBI’s in game two).

The Braves (8-4) have won eight of nine game after an 0-3 start and hope to keep the bats hot when they travel to East Coweta Wednesday (5:30 PM) to take on the talented Class AAAAAAA Indians.

The Indians also enter the game hot having won 10 of their last 11.

Senior Logan Ward has been on a tear as of late and leads the team with a .459 batting average. Brant leads the squad with 19 RBI’s and Kay isn’t far behind with 17. Kay is also batting .417.

Off the bench, Trey Owens and Tanner Collins have been big sticks for Coach Trent Bianco. Collins is batting .429 in 25 plate appearances while Owens is hitting .421 in 22 appearances.

The Braves (8-4) are currently ranked No. 3 in Class AA by Score Atlanta and the AJC behind No. 1 Elbert County (9-2) and No. 2 Benedictine (7-7).

The team will be back at home Friday to host Whitefield Academy (5:30 PM) at Alford Field before turning the page to the all important region series schedule next week.
