Braves take region series from Jackets

(Columbus, GA) — The Brave baseball team traveled to Columbus Friday to face the Jordan Red Jackets in a doubleheader to complete a three game series in Region 5-AA play.

The Braves and Jackets split the twin bill to give the Braves a series win after a big home win on Tuesday.

In game one Friday, the Jackets edged the Braves 7-3 after a five run outburst in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Senior Bryan Jones tossed five plus innings allowing six hits and two walks and only three earned runs but the defense struggled with four errors. Jones also led the offense with two hits.

In game two, strong pitching propelled the squad to a 4-2 win. Dale Thornhill started and was relieved by Tray Owens in the fourth inning. The tandem combined to strike out 11 while allowing just two runs neither of which were earned. Thornhill earned the win and Owens notched his team high third save of the season.

The Braves offense scored one in the top of the second two in the third and added another in the fourth. Tanner Collins and Davey Jones led the way with two hits and Thornhill had a base hit and an RBI as did Jones.

The Braves (8-10. 5-1) will face off against Temple in another three game Region 5-AA series this week hosting the Tigers at 5:30 PM in Franklin tomorrow before traveling to Temple Friday for a doubleheader.
