Braves take two at Lagrange Classic

(Lagrange, GA) — The Heard County Braves (2-9, 0-2) earned their first two wins of the basketball season over the weekend at the Lagrange Toyota Basketball Classic where they knocked off WD Mohammed and Grady.

The wins on Thursday and Friday followed an upending by Class AA Douglass in the first round on Thursday.

The most exciting victory came in Saturday’s 53-52 triumph over the Class AAAAA Grady Knights.

Senior Alijah Huzzie led the scoring for the Braves with 22 points including 10 in the third quarter alone. Tray Dunson finished in double figures with 11 and Khalil Cofield poured in nine.

The wins were big for a team that has practiced very little together following the extended football season.

The Braves will not have long to recover as they travel to Bremen Wednesday night for a Region 5-AA tilt versus the Blue Devils.

A region road win would be huge for Coach Keith Simmons’ team as they prepare for the home stretch of the regular season featuring 10 straight region contests.

The Braves will tip it off at around 7:30 PM at Bremen High just after the Lady Braves versus the Devils at 6:00 PM.
